A mindful yoga workshop for kids to wake up both body and mind, preparing them to face the day with gladness and gratitude.

About this workshop

Waking both body & mind prepares the child to face the day with gladness and gratitude. Each session taps into the wisdom of the young heart, having confidence that it would grow each day in happiness and loving kindness.

A growing body of scientific research shows its positive effects on mental health and well-being. Some of the practical benefits of mindfulness include helping kids learn to focus, manage stress, regulate emotions, and develop a positive outlook. 

Workshop Details

This class is online with live instruction. Students will need to have a computer, tablet, or phone with internet and access to Zoom/Google Meet.  Students will also need to have specific art materials that are listed in the downloadable Crafts Booklet. Additional work may need to be done outside of online sessions.

Class size: 3 to 5 learners
Age group: 6 to 8 years old; 12 to 14 years old
Duration: 60 minutes

What will children learn from this workshop?

Although the class seems to be focused on the physical body, it is more of a training of one’s mind or heart through movement. Mindfulness of the breath, body movement and thought formations will be emphasized.

The flow of each session is as follows:

  1. 25-minute session
  2. 10-minute break
  3. 25-minute session
  4. 10-minute closing

The learning goals for this workshop are:

  • Mindful exercises for kids

*This module does not claim that a child will be able to achieve mindfulness after 8 sessions. But it will provide tools and strategies that a child could use so that he or she could develop mindfulness.

The materials needed up for this workshop are:

  • Yoga mat or rubber mats
  • Face towel

For the workshop activities: 

  • Flat, smooth rocks 8 pcs 
  • Poster paint
  • Paintbrushes
  • Permanent markers
  • A jar or box that can hold all the rocks

A downloadable Crafts Journal is included in this workshop.
